Hi to everybody, first of all I want to say "congratulations" to Nicholas and all the people carrying on this site: it's really amazing the passion and the dedication behind it. When I first discover this page I wasn't unable to stop reading and went to ben at 3a.m.! In this moment I'm on the island, and I'll pass the month of november here. I'm a amateur photographer, and I thought to make a reportage of the remainders of the italian occupation of the island: buildings, graffitis, ruins, etc. In fact I was inspired by the graffitis in the turkish bath, that I found very moving. Nicholas, and all the others connoisseurs of the island, can you advice me places, things or details to portray? Another idea I had, was to shoot today from the same positions of some old photos of that period like these for example, to see the difference. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi blutango,
Sorry for the delayed reply!
Glad you liked our Forum. It has been out of action lately, but now I am back to get it rolling again.
I love your idea about preserving the Italian legacy of the island. How is your work going? Did you achieve much when you were there last year (I was there as well in November)?
A 'the and now' series would also be great and I'd be happy to help out. Perhaps send me an email to ngpappas@ozemail.com.au and we'll start an offline conversation.
Regards, Nicholas

When speaking of the Italian occupation, there is no more poignant reminder of those years than the elaborate plans the Italians had for improving the infrastructure of the island. Here, courtesy of the Greek National Archives,is a drawing of a large lookout that was planned for the summit of Mt Vigla:
Plans for this building were overtaken by the events of WWII and it was never commenced.

Why don’t we raise money form Kastellorizians all over the world in order to build such a landmark building which could be used as a hotel or cultural center dedicated in providing rooms at a discount for all Kastellorizian Australians or from any other place who wish to visit the Island ? We could get funding form the Church or individuals.
