Hello, My husband is a descendant of Spyros and Chrissie Karpouzis, who married in 1916 after Spyros returned to Castellorizo from Kalgoorlie WA.
According to family stories, he returned to Kazzie with gold for his sister's dowry, enabling her to marry well. However, as far as we know he had only two sisters, Rina and Yeorgia, both of whom married before he did. The information below is from a post on Karpouzis on the Forum site:
The dowry archive records the following Karpouzis weddings in the period 1895-1930 (the dates are the dowry contract dates): Rina Efstratiou Karpouzi & Theodoros Christou, 8 October 1896 Konstandinos K Kouvanides & Yeorgia Efstratiou Karpouzi, 5 May 1915 Spyros Efstratiou Karpouzis & Chrysi Paraskeva Yiorgi, 9 May 1916
My question is: according to custom, was the dowry contract registered on the day of the wedding or some time before? Was the agreed dowry paid before the wedding or after? Could the Karpouzis family have contracted to provide money that would be paid to the bridegroom months after the actual wedding?
I'd love to learn more about dowry customs of the island.

Aikaterini (Katina) Kambouris marries Evangelos Christou Antoniou approx. 1920 on Kastellorizo.
Any documents available?
They are my grandparents.
