Hi All!!
Can anyone help me to put some things together? The genealogy tree is becoming a huge forest and I am finishing some details in order to show it in Allan Creswell site.
According to a genealogy tree built in 1969 by Kostas Adjemis, Diomantaris Diamantaras, born in 17??, married someone named Anna and had 10 children.
According to Alexi Spyridis message (read Spyridis thread) that man was Spyro Diamantaras, born in 1795.
Since the youngest son of "Diomantaris/Spyro", named Spyro and married with Chrystalla, named his first son as "Diomantaris", it seems to me that Diomantaris is more apropriate, because it follows greek naming tradition...
Does anyone in this forum has further information?
Thanks in advance!

Cristian,
From the limited records I have, I tend to think you're right. It appears relatively clear that Diamandaras was the name of the 'father' of the clan and that his son Spyros (Spyridon) named his own first-born son after him.
Please note, however, that the names Diamandaras/Diomantaras/Diomataris etc are all the same name. As you know, there were hardly any formal surnames used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rather, people were called by their first name to which one added either their father's name (as in 'Spyros Diamandaras' or 'Kostas Spyrides'), their place of origin (Roditis, Kotis, Kritikos, Amoryianos etc) or even their trade or a physical description. These often became the accepted surname over time, but sometimes it remained just a paratsoukli (nickname), especially when there was a perjorative or unflattering connotation to the name.
Gradually, many of these names were corrupted and became quite different from their original form: hence 'Diomataris' from the more correct 'Diamandaras'.

Thanks Nicholas!
I need to add the "Diomataris" surname in my researches. Until today I was searching Diamantaras/Diamantara Diamandara/Diamandaras and Deomantaris/Diomantaris.
I will go one step further and assume that Diomantaris Diamantaras was born in 1795, in Ithaca... When we met in Castellorizo, you told me about Diamantaras and its possible origin in Ithaca. Alexi Spyridis mentioned it in his message too.
Which is the source of this information?
By the way, I have found "Diamantaris Diamantaras" arriving at Ellis Port in 1915, fourteen years old. Assuming that his fathers were with him (Nicolaos, born in 1873 and Panagiota, 1880) they have to been related to the father of the clan, but it was impossible to me to establish the link...
Does you or anyone in this forum know something about those 6 Diamantaras arriving at Ellis Port?
Thanks again!
