Hi All
I am making inquiries re the availability of the 1947 Castellorizo Census that was created when the island joined Greece. Is it available? Is anyone willing to provide it to be placed online so others can share in the details?
This is an important resource, like the online Castellorizo Headstones inscriptions, and would assist in linking families.
Best wishes
Allan

Allan,
I am happy to report that I recently came upon a copy of this interesting document while trawling through the papers of the first Greek military administrator of the island, Nikos Kravaritis.
It's dated 19 October 1947 and lists 692 residents of the island at that time (306 permanently resident males, 357 permanently resident females and 29 temporary residents) by surname, first name, father's name, mother's name and year of birth. The document is type-written in the Greek language and is 16 pages in length.
I propose to translate the document into English in due course and to publish it here, much as we did with the cemetery transcription (see Cemetery post). It will definitely be a useful, though somewhat limited, resource for those seeking to trace their family's connection to the island.
Nicholas

Hi Nicholas
Great news! Does it group the family members together per household? Does it list the children also?
I look forward to the transcription although I know you have many other projects in progress. We will have to be patient <grin>!!
On another note the Cazzie Genealogy website now has over 16100 persons listed and over 1300 photos. I have much more onhand but have had personal issues over the past few months that has prevented me from giving the website my full support. I know you have had issues also that has prevented your full attention to your research and publications. Lets hope 2010 brings a great time of discovery for all Cazzies worldwide.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all on this forum.
Allan (Agapitos) Cresswell PS I have moved residence and could not take my email address with me. My new address is linked to my website. It is: castellorizo@bigpond.com - for anyone trying to contact me direct.
