is there anybody in this group, who might know our grandfather (hairdresser ali). he was son of hodja hasan and had a barber shop in the lower level of a hotel at the seaside. he had 5 children (3 sons and 2 doughters: ahmet, sevki, hasan basri, sadiye, sükriye) and was married with ümmügülsüm. i am the grandchild of his son ahmet. our grandfather ali has been born in kastellorizo and buried there. it has been told us that he rescued a greek child with his razor, who wanted to pick the fish basket from the sea but has been twisted by an octopus. barbar ali jumped in the sea and cut the octopus arm with his razor. i would very happy if somebody in this group might know him and would contact with me. kind regards ahmet arisan

Ahmet,
It is wonderful that you have joined our Forum!
We have long looked for descendants of the Islamic population of Castellorizo, so it is quite exciting that we have at last made contact.
Hopefully, some of the information that you will find in the pages of the Forum will provide you with some useful background information about Castellorizo's history to enable you to place what you know of your ancestors into some context.
The story of your great-grandfather is indeed a fascinating one and I hope that someone viewing this Forum is able to provide you with more information.
In the meantime, if there are any photos or documents that record your family's connection to the island, then I'm sure many Members would be delighted to see them.
Best wishes, Nicholas
