Recently the Turkish Government announced its decision to construct a Russian made nuclear plant with 4 reactors in the region of Akkuyu 360 Km east of the Greek Island of Castellorizo, right next to the seaside, a decision which entails great risk for the broader Aegean region, taking into account the region’s seismicity, food chain importance, Touristic importance and unique cultural features. This decision bares a great risk for the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean region. A clear proof of the underlying risks involved in the use of nuclear energy is the recent accident in Fukushima, Japan. Therefore could you please raise this issue into your Forum and also the Australian parliament and investigate whether these plans will guarantee that our beloved Island will not one day become a modern Fukushima ?. P.S. Please find bellow a link from the University of Aegean about this issue:¨ petition.aegean.gr/stopnuclearplants/en/index.phpThanks Nickos
