Hello Nicholas, can you help me with my mothers side? My Yaya, was Maria serges, her father was george serges, he was a priest on the island, I am not sure what her mothers name was. Maria was born in 1917. I think the name was Athensi or something similar.

Nick,
A Yeorgios Ioannou Sergis married a Panayiota Theodosiou Atherinou in February 1917. Maybe this is the family you are referring to, though Yeorgios was not a priest.
There was a priest by the name of Yeorgios Sidheris, but he married a girl from the Savvas family in 1904.
The Sergis family has its origins in Russia - the name is, in fact, a Greek derivative of the name 'Sergei'.
Let me know if you find more information.
Nicholas

Nick,
Regardless of the spelling in English, the spelling in Greek is the same - Σεργης.
As mentioned earlier, the name is a Greek corruption of the Russian 'Sergei' and appears only to exist in this form on Castellorizo.
There are many references to the name in the island's document archives. The specific family I have referred to earlier in this thread was known as 'tou Yiannifou' after Yeorgios' father Ioannis (Yiannis). They operated a cafe in the main commercial square of the island until WWII.
So I can tell you more, can you please give me your specific connection to this family?
Nicholas

Its my Yiayia's family, my uncle bobby mentioned that was a way the name was spelt - obviously a spelling translation issue.
Ive been told that there was a cafe once apon a time but not much more.
Any information you have is grateful for my family history dowry.
Sorry for the late reply Nick
