Here is a photograph of the junior girls' class from 1928. The teacher in the middle is the headmistress of the girls' school, Anastasia Arnaoutoglou. Behind her stands Eleni Agapitou, who assisted in instruction of the junior classes. The other teacher at left is Evangelia Harami. I would be grateful for any names of the students that can be identified by members of the Forum. This photo was given to the Castellorizo Forum by Irini Livissianis of Kingsford, Sydney, who is seated at the extreme right of the front row of children. Nicholas Attachments:

My mother in law, Evdokia Paldiri, may have been in this age group at the school - she would have been 7 years old in 1928. I know her teacher's name was Evanghelia and we have a photo of Evanghelia taken in 1973. Eva was surprised to find she was wearing the same earrings she had been wearing at school all those years ago.
Would it be possible to get a larger file of this photo so I can print it to A4 size please to see if Eva can identify any of the girls?
Many thanks, Milli K

Milli,
To assist in identification, I have re-scanned and enlarged the image.

Hi My name is Marianna and I just heard about this site today and became a member. It is great! My mother's mum was born in Castellorizo in 1921, her name was Mary Salakas but she was also known as Gizela. I found her straight away in the Junior girls' class, 1928 photo. She is the last girl sitting on the far right in the front row with the lace collar on her dress. She was seven years old. Unfortunately my Yiayia passed away in 1994, and thus I have been quite emotional all day after seeing this. I am sure once I show mum tomorrow she will be thrilled. Hopefully she can recognise some others faces. Once again thank you, and I will keep in touch. Thanks Marianna

Hi Marianna
In the other girl's school photo under the topic "Junior girls' class, 1930" your grandmother might be the girl in the 3rd row from the back also with a lace collar. It looks very similar and she also has a strong part in her hair like the 1928 photo. What do you think?
Regards Allan

Hi Allan I think you may be right. I also want to make a correction, she was Maria not Mary (just a slight change). The boys photo will probably have her brother Dimitri who was older than her, but my mum needs to look at it properly. We confirmed that it definatley was my grandmother as we have a clear photo around the same time of her with her parents, I can scan that and email it to you if you like.(others may recognise her as well). Kind regards Marianna

Hi again Marianna
Just one problem! The person who submitted it to the administrator, Nicholas, stated.......
This photo was given to the Castellorizo Forum by Irini Livissianis of Kingsford, Sydney, who is seated at the extreme right of the front row of children.
That may throw a spanner in the works. Anyhow I have also sent you a private email on this forum.
Best wishes Allan

This photo was shown to me yesterday by my aunties from my mums side. They said that my mother, Eleni Koutsoukos who was born in 1922, is the little girl standing on the far left hand side near the border of the photo away from the group. Apparently, I looked like my mum when I was her age. Cheers Vicky

Hi Vicky Kriticos, There must have been some misunderstanding. It wasn`t your aunties on your mothers side that located your mother in the 1928 Junior girls class photo. It was your cousine Michael john koutsoukis.Lets get the facts straight !I left you a note with the photo that had your mother in it.You knew I sent you this photo but you failed to thank me. Hello everyone,I'am italian (Firenze)and I joined this forum because I sincerely love your beautiful island.I was ten years old when I saw the film "Mediterraneo" and Kastellorizo seemed like an enchanted place. The teacher Anastasia Arnaoutoglou was decorated with the silver medal of military valor for protecting at the risk of life an italian sailor wounded during the english raid in february 1941.
