I am the grandson of Stylianos V Hloros born Castellorizo about 1874 . I am researching our family tree and in particular his parents and grandparents etc.
Also inquiring whether any of the family members currently live on the island.
Any other family history ?
Assistance and comments will be appreciated.

Hi Jim,
My Great Great Great Grandmother was Asimina Efsthatios Chlorou. I think that the surname may be Hloros. She was born about 1856 and her father was Efsthatios. She married Nikolaos Palassis and they had a son Efsthatios Palassis. We might be related?? But that is all I know.
Hope this helps. Levis

Hi Jim
I have been looking at the Chloros/Cloros/Hloros/Xloros family today as I have a day off from work. Some success with your family!
Some of this you will already know but I will list what I have found.
Stylianos nominated his birth details as born Castellorizo 12 March 1877. His father was Vassilios (on Stylianos Naturalisation Application and this matches the "V" you had for his middle name and the fact that his eldest son was named Vasillios (your Dad)). He came to Australia with his two sons, Vasillios (born Egypt 1914) and John (born USA in 1918). In 1928 he applied for his wife, Maria (32 yrs) and daughter Euthalia (8 yrs) to also come to Australia. That year he states that his sons, Vasillios (15 yrs) and John (8 yrs) were already in Australia with him.
Other records show that the daughter, Euthalia (Ethel) was also nominated as born in USA in 1920.
In the application for his wife and daughter to come to Australia he nominates that both Maria and Ethel were born in Kalymnos (another Dodecanese Island), so he did wander around a bit. His occupation was a Bootmaker.
You say that a brother of Stylianos may have been a Basil John Chloros but that does not gel with the naming sytem of Greeks and I cannot find any reference to him in Australia. There is however a William Basil Cloros who married an Olga May King in Sydney in 1936 who I suspect somehow ties into your family.
Your Aunty Ethel (?) married in 1941 to Theo Therapon Kollakides and there is another Ethel Cloros marrying at Dubbo in 1942 to Constantinos Margosis. Either the first marriage failed quickly or there is a second Ethel which then would support that Stylianos had a brother in NSW and both the girls were named after their Chloros grandmother.
But there is another early entry in NSW.....
Nicholas John Chloris dying in 1928 at Granville with parents nominated as John and Maria. Perhaps Stylianos called himself John or his brother was John?
Over in WA a George John Palassis Chloros died on 25 May 1926 aged 19 yrs. There are no other entries for birth, death or marriages for Chloros etc in WA. He most certainly ties into Efstathios Nicholas Palassis whose mother was Assimina Chlorou and this family did come to WA.
Hope this helps a bit. Maybe some of this info will result in someone else coming forward with a connection.
Regards and best wishes............Allan

Hi Allan,
Fistly let me say " many thanks' for your information, I appreciate it immensely.
Your research is accurate regarding Stylianos and Vassilios ( AKA William Basil) who was my father and John and Euthalia Uncle and Aunt respectively. So all these members they were my immediate relatives.
Regarding the matter of Basil John ( perhaps being a brother to Stylinos) his greek name would have been Vasilios Yianni he was born in Castellorizo ( I suspect a few years earlier than Stylianos). However I do not believe he immigrated to Australia.
Regarding Nicholas John Chloris (born 30 October 1901). I have records of him immigrating from Castellorizo to Perth October 1915. I suspect he could be a cousin of Stylianos.
Once again Allan many thanks for your research and infomation.
regards and best wishes

Hi Jim and others interested
I often spend time visiting Cazzie families in Perth on days off, picking their brains, scanning their old photos and eating their cakes and drinking their coffee <g>!
Today I was visiting some elderly people and the conversation got around to my grandmother's family, Xanthis (which I have posted a thread, on this Forum). "You know it is only a nickname I was told". I did already know that it meant fair/blonde or something similar - but I was unaware of any other family name. I was then told, "Yes your family went by that nickname but their real surname is Clorou or Cloros"! I immediately thought about your posting Jim on the Xanthis thread about your father, and to quote you...........
My father (Bill Cloros also a 'Cassie') had a friend Jack Xanthis (perhaps he is related)
Seems that the connection is a relation! I don't know what made you say that but it seems the connection does go deeper than just friendship.
Best wishes to cousin Jim!!

Hi Allan,
Very interesting about the name Xanthis... ( I was un-aware of the connection and meaning)
My father William Basil (Bill) did speak of relatives in Perth.
However the most distant paternal relative thet I can identify is Efstathios Chloros (Born Castellorizo About 1830). His forebears and family history are as yet to be identified.
Thanks for the note......cousin Allan.
Best wishes
Jim C.
