Hello to all the Pandelakis and Allayalis out there. Has any one of you done a family tree for either of these families, or know of anyone who may have? My personal interest stems from Con Michael Pandelakis, whose first wife was Maria Allayalis. Their two children were Eleni (married Nick Michael Bogiatzis) and Michael (married Evdokia Yeronikola). Maria died just after Michael's birth, and Con remarried to Evangelia Fokountas. They then had another 4 sons and 3 daughters. What do we know of Con and Maria's siblings or parents?

Hi Nicholas
I have minimal info on my site for a Con Pandelakis who I have marrying a Maria Taifalos with children Michael and Savas. This family was in QLD. Info came from a QLD source. Could there be a connection, especially as the first son was named Michael? Regards Allan

Hello Allan, thanks for your response. Your referene is to Con Michael Pandelakis, the only son of Michael and Evdokia that I refer to above. Both the Pandelakis and Taifalos were Kazzi families with bases in Kalamaki. Con and family live in Townsville. His siblings are Mary, wife of the late George Lucas (daughter Eva), now on the Gold Coast; and Evangelia, wife of the late Stelios Kotiades, in Rhodes (children are Evvie and Ilia).
The Pandelakis families are now quite well spread. One of CMP's brothers, Spyro, died aged 36 in April 1913 in Kalamaki, from meningitis. Many of his family are now in Sydney and Goulburn.

thanks Sophie. Do you know if anyone has done a family tree of the Allayialis?
My great-grandmother was Maria Pandelakis, nee Allayialis, sister to Anastasi. Were there other siblings, and who were they? Does anyone have old photos of the family in Kazzi or Turkey? As you would be aware, the family name came from the town of Allaya, or Alanya, on the Turkish coast opposite. There is a wonderful 1830s etching of the town by W H Bartlett.
Maria died young, as stated above. I was born and raised in Townsville and knew Anastasi's family well, going to school with some of his and Vasiliki's grandchildren. I remember him also as an old man in his house next to the family bakery. Good memories.

Hi Everyone (A big hello to Sophie and Toni!),
I am the youngest granddaughter of Vasillios Allayialis and originate from Cairns. I am the daughter of Tass (Anastasios) Allayialis and Jeanette Battiato. My grandfather was Vasillios Allayialis – son of Anastasi Allayialis. My grandfather had 3 children – my Thea Christina was to his first wife and my Thea Anastasia and dad were with my grandmother. My Thea Anastasia has had three daughters and I believe one of them has done an extensive family tree. They all reside in Greece however I am sure I can get a hold of some photos and information via email. Also, as Toni stated, she does in fact know a lot of the family history.
The Allayialis’ do indeed originate from Asia Minor – a place called Allaya – I have been told…By the way, my uncle (great uncle) Michael Allayialis often mentions his time in Townsville and working at the bakery…
Kind Regards, Miranda

gidday to all the Allayiali - good to see more connections being made with the clan. Glad to hear from you Miranda. It would be great if you could follow up with the rels in Greece for family details, and possibly any photos. I head to Greece next week. I suppose it's a bit late to be making connections there?
Who's going to organize a big family reunion. My Dad Con is 85, is here in Canberra, and grew up with the clan in Townsville. Nick Bogiatzis

Hi Nick, I was Googling and came across this post which was interesting. We're part of the Goulburn Pandelakis connection. My grandfather John Pandelakis (Spiro's son), was born in 1912 and moved to Australia at 12 years old, eventually resettling in Goulburn. I always heard that his father died very young - and was told he was a bootmaker. John had a brother Michael and sister Helen, and they all married, owned businesses and raised families in Goulburn (some of whom have since moved to Sydney.) Spiro's widow, Flora, (ie. my great-grandmother) also relocated to Goulburn and is buried there. Regards, Athena

Hello Athena, good to hear from you. Yes, I understand the Pandelakis were bootmakers in Kalamaki, now Kalkan on the Turkish coast opposite Kastellorizo. He would also ride up to Smyrni for trade purposes. They also had homes on Kastellorizo, on the Pera Meria side of the harbour, and behind the church of Ayios Georgios tou Pigadiou. I several times visited Xanthi in Goulburn, a gracious and elegant woman. Allan Creswell's geneology site has your family down to your parents' generation. It would be great if you contacted him to bring it up to date so the whole family can gradually be included. Good to be 'talking'. Nick Bogiatzis (great grand-son of Con).
