My paternal grandfather, George Livery married my grandmother Evangelia Hadjieleftheriou I think around 1920. They waited for their second son to be born (25/6/1923), Panos, known as Pino, my father, before they came to Australia in October 1923 and settled in Ingham, North Queensland. Con, the first son was born in 1921.
Nicholas, is it possible for you to find a dowry contract for George and Evangelia? Also, is there a record of births anywhere?
George and Evangelia married relatively late in life for those days, George was born in 1883 and Evangelia in 1888. Apparently George worked for many years in America, Florida and other places as a single man sending money home. I would love to hear from people with stories of what life was like in America for those single Kassie men in those times.
I would also love to hear from any Livery's or Liveris' in Australia or elsewhere. George's sister, Ekaterene married Theo Kannis (Perth), his brother Andreas married Maria Hadjikostandinou (Darwin) & Apostolos married Maria Kitsas (Perth) - both known as Liveris.
Nicholas I read in an earlier thread under Koutsoukas that Liveris is a French name. In what context would the French have been visiting in the 1800s?

Florence,
Yeorgios Konstandinou Liveris married Evangelia Panagiotou Hatzieleftheriou on 9 June 1920.
I have a copy of their dowry contract. If you contact me via e-mail through the website and give me your address details, I will send you a copy.
Birth records are kept on the island in the municipal offices.
I know of no evidence for the proposition that 'Liveris' is a French name. While it is possible, I would be surprised if this is the case. In my view, it is more likely that the name has its origins in a place name (Libya?, Liberia? or somewhere in Anatolia?) or in a term that was descriptive of a trade or someone's physical appearance.
Nicholas

RE: LIVERIS Hi Florence, My name is Eva Koutsoukos from Perth, WA. Most of my details come from my father George Koutsoukos b: 1907 d: 1988. His father was Elias Koutsoukos b: 1860 d: 1940. his parents were Iacovos Koutsoukos and Chrisafina LIVERIS. Chrisafina's parents were Elias Liveris - previously know as Luis Oliver (born in France) and Katerina ?? Don't know where the French connection comes from, perhaps someone with more knowledge may be able to help. Evdokia (Eva Koutsoukos)
